Reminder: Enter Patient Names (as displayed on Medicare card) on Claims, to Avoid Claims Returned as Unprocessable
Reminder: On claims, not entering your patient’s name as displayed on their Medicare card puts you at risk to have claims returned as unprocessable.
Some patient’s Medicare cards don’t display their full name due to a character limit. You are required to enter the patient’s last name, first name, and middle initial, if any, as shown on the patient’s Medicare card (Section 10.2 of the Medicare Claims Processing Manual, Chapter 26).
CMS confirmed claims will process using the name displayed on a patient’s Medicare card, even if it isn’t their full name.
